Welcome to the Phantom 2 Vision+ Drone
This week we have added a Phantom 2 Vision+ drone camera to our equipment list and I have to say, we’re quite excited about it. Our drone is the latest Phantom model from DJI to market which has been made easier to fly and was specifically designed with video producers in mind.
It doesn’t seem long ago we would have had to use the services of a helicopter to get aerial footage, however drones can get the same shot, often smoother, closer and for a fraction of the cost.
As drones become increasingly popular, the improvements to them are staggering. The Phantom 2 Vision+ has features such as a 3D axis gimbal for improved stabilisation and with updated rotors, can withstand winds up to 45-50km/h and the inbuilt camera takes higher resolution photos than a GoPro. I like the fact the built in camera uses the same battery as the drone itself so there are no issues with separate batteries for drone and camera.
It also has a GPS so if it goes out of range or gets low on battery, it will automatically return to where it took off from.
One feature I love is the
ability to set way points.
I can set GPS location, height & speed and the drone will fly itself between these points. This allows more focus on getting the right shot from the camera. The camera is operated from the ground while the drone flys itself. This is undoubtably a great feature for getting exactly the right shot.
In terms of video production, drone footage needs to be expertly gathered. A clear shot list and production plan is imperitive to a great promotional video. These specific and careful shots, combined with other footage using sliders, jib arm and/or a range of closeups or creative shots, means your video production can cover every aspect. It won’t just be a selection of random shots, but rather a well thought out tool for communicating a message.
Drones have many uses apart from capturing fantastic footage for promotional videos and we are looking forward to using our Phantom 2 Vision+ for some of these purposes.
They are already being used extensively overseas for assistance with:
Agricultural surveying & mapping
Property development videos
Checking progress with large developments
Environmental checks of rivers/dams/lakes – problem areas and erosion
Search & rescue (Land & Sea)
Sports locations & events
Law enforcement –
Fire investigations & assessments
So whether you require our services for a promotion, live viewing or just the raw footage, give us a call. We’d love to talk, or let us know your thoughts on the Phantom 2 Vision+ below.
